Games on OsX

To some, booting into Bootcamp/Window is an option, to me it is not. My machine does more than just being a simple desktop. So, rebooting is not an option.

Cider:

Clear leader now. Many games run the same as Windows, many run well enough to play, with minor glitches (enough to play the game, but you couldn't sell them with those glitches).

  • Half Life 2: plays great. Good speed. Shadows are broken, and no menu font. 1280x1024 no problems.
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Does not run.
  • Another World: Runs great.

Parallels V3:

dxdiag will claim DirectX-9 support and many games will start, even if slowly. On my 4 core mac, unfortunately Parallels will only use one core with Windows. Shame.

  • Half Life 2: plays, had to set things pretty low, 800x600 and what not, but it actually works.
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R: No in game menu, game runs but it is slow. Due to no menu text, I can't change it to lower res.
  • Another World: runs just fine.

VMWare Fusion beta 4:

Close, but dxdiag only supports Direct X-8, so nothing really runs. Will use two-cores but, well, it doesn't matter if it just plain do not work.

  • Half Life 2: Blue screen, reboot. (Of Windows, not OsX)
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Wont load, error.
  • Another World: Wont load, error.

Crossover:

Could be great if you want to run a really old game that is directly supported by Crossover. If you have something since after year 2000, it just does not work. However, Portal and Half-life ep2 runs fantastic in Crossover.
